It was about future-proofing his home, living more sustainably, and knowing his household was powered smarter.\r\n\r\n<strong>\u201cThe biggest driver for me was economic. It was a selfish decision in that sense; I wanted to save money. The sustainability side is obviously a plus.\u201d<\/strong>\r\n<h3>A smarter way to power the home<\/h3>\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">When Nick and his wife bought their first home, they jumped at the chance to go solar. But solar alone\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0enough.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cOwning a house means you can finally do things like install solar. But solar by itself\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0make sense anymore. Feed-in tariffs are too low. A battery was the only smart choice.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">With the help of the Victorian Government\u2019s interest-free loan scheme, they invested in a SolarEdge system\u00a0-\u00a05.33<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">kWp\u00a0of rooftop solar plus a home battery and inverter. Despite\u00a0navigating\u00a0a tricky roof\u00a0for installation, they packed in as many panels as possible.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe literally crammed as many panels on as physically possible,\u00a0even though our roof isn\u2019t ideal, we\u2019re generating plenty.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<h3><span class=\"TextRun SCXW6385959 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW6385959 BCX0\">Savings\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW6385959 BCX0\">t<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW6385959 BCX0\">hat\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW6385959 BCX0\">s<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW6385959 BCX0\">tack\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW6385959 BCX0\">u<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW6385959 BCX0\">p<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW6385959 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\r\nSince installing the battery, Nick has seen significant reductions in his bills.\r\n\r\n\u201cIt\u2019s really nice knowing I\u2019m not just paying a bill every month - I can see where the savings come from. It\u2019s great seeing the battery kick in at night. We\u2019re using our own energy instead of buying it back at a premium.\u201d\r\n\r\nTheir worst month so far? <strong>A bill under $100.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nBy storing excess solar and using it in peak times, Nick avoids high grid prices and gets the full value from his solar investment.\r\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Expectations vs.\u00a0reality<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Before the\u00a0installation, Nick wondered if a battery would make much difference. The results quickly exceeded his expectations.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cAt first, I\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0sure how much of a difference it would make. Now I can see the value straight away.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">I expected some savings, but the peace of mind has been a bonus too.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sustainable living, without <\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">compromise<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">While the main driver was financial, Nick appreciates the environmental benefits too.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI wouldn\u2019t call myself a greenie, but if I can save money and also reduce my footprint, then that\u2019s a win.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">He and his wife have completely removed gas from their home. Switching to electric hot water, induction cooking, and solar-powered heating and cooling. Even their camping setup runs on solar and battery.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cGas\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0just bad for the environment.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0bad for your health, and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0only going to get more expensive.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Best of all, the switch\u00a0hasn\u2019t\u00a0changed how they live.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<strong>\u201cIt\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0get in the way of life at all.\u00a0We\u00a0haven\u2019t\u00a0had to change how we use energy.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A\u00a0system\u00a0that\u00a0works in the\u00a0background<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">For Nick, the simplicity of the battery was a big plus.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe installation was\u00a0really straightforward. I\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0have to worry\u00a0about a thing.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It just runs in the background. Just do it.
