What’s GreenPower?
While you can’t choose where your energy comes from, you can choose what type of energy you support.
GreenPower is a government scheme that ensures your energy retailer purchases renewable energy on your behalf.
This means that when you sign up to an accredited GreenPower plan, you can be confident we’ll add an equivalent amount of renewable electricity to the grid for every kilowatt of energy you use.
How load shifting works alongside GreenPower
Our flexible rates encourage and reward you for using electricity when the wholesale price is lower – which is typically in the middle of the day when there is more renewable energy in the grid from solar generation.
So how does this relate to GreenPower? The key is that they are two different ways to support renewables.
With GreenPower, no matter when you use electricity, the same amount of accredited renewable energy is added to the grid on your behalf. This means your electricity use is matched with renewable energy generated in Australia and overall increases the demand for renewables.
With load shifting, you choose to use more electricity at times when renewable generation in the grid is generally higher (like midday solar) and the cost of electricity is cheaper. This helps you save on costs and supports the grid, but it is separate from GreenPower.
Together, they’re a powerful combination: GreenPower ensures your entire usage is backed by renewables, and load shifting helps you take advantage of cheaper, renewable-rich times of day.
What makes our GreenPower different?
Most retailers who offer GreenPower offer it as an optional extra. They also typically package it in small increments, such as – 10% or 25%.
But we don’t think doing the right thing should be an option. That’s why all our customers receive 100% GreenPower as a standard part of our plan.
