Victorian Midday Power Saver

What the Midday Power Saver standing offer is, whether it's a good fit for your home and how it stacks up against Flow Power's plans.

9 October 2026, 5 mins

Three hours of free electricity sounds appealing, but how does it stack up against a smart, wholesale-linked plan? We unpack the Victorian Government’s new free-daytime offer and explain why it pays to weigh up the whole plan, not just the free window.

The Victorian Government’s Midday Power Saver is a welcome step: it rewards households for using electricity in the middle of the day, when the grid is full of low-cost, renewable solar. But rewarding smart daytime energy use isn’t new to Flow Power, our residential electricity plans have been doing exactly that. For over 2 years since we launched our first residential plan, thousands of our residential customers have enjoyed the on-bill rewards of using cheaper, greener power in the middle of the day, and less during high priced periods, typically in the evening.

What is the Midday Power Saver

The Midday Power Saver is a Victorian Government standing offer that gives eligible residential customers a window of free electricity every day in return for shifting some usage into that window.

How it works

Feature

Detail

Free usage window  Every day from 11am to 2pm, electricity usage is charged at $0 per kWh. The window is fixed year-round and it doesn’t change for daylight saving or the seasons.

Tariff structure   Your bill is a daily supply charge plus time-of-use usage rates, the price per kWh changes with the time of day. Exact rates depend on your network, check your fact sheet at the bottom of the page for your exact figures:

  1. Daily supply charge – a fixed amount each day
  2. Free window, 11am–2pm — $0 per kWh for the first 24 kWh a day
  3. Excess usage (above 24 kWh in the free window)
  4. Daytime rate 2pm–4pm
  5. Overnight & morning rate, 9pm–11am
  6. Peak rate, 4pm–9pm

Fair use cap  Up to 24 kWh per day can be used free during the window (not counting any controlled load). Usage above 24 kWh in the window is charged at the excess usage rate.

How it compares to Flow Power 4Free

4Free is Flow Power’s own market plan, built on the same idea, free power in the middle of the day, but with a longer free window, a bigger daily allowance, and a reward for the energy you export in the evening. If the daytime-free concept appeals, here’s how our plan stacks up.

There’s a clear winner for battery owners

With Flow Power’s wholesale-linked plan you get more control over when you use and export your energy and you help the grid by sending power back when it’s needed most. For battery owners there’s one more thing worth knowing: Flow Power isn’t a VPP. You keep full control of your battery, and the extra say over your bill that comes with it.

Flow Power also offers one of the most competitive export rates around. So it’s not just free power in the middle of the day, it’s a chance to earn credit from your battery when evening prices peak.

Compare Flow Power’s plans

Free daytime power is a genuine perk but it’s only one part of a plan. What really matters is what you’ll pay across a whole year, and that comes down to your own usage and how much you can export.
