Explore the project lifecycle from development to operation

Flow Power develops renewable energy projects across, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia. Our built, owned and operated projects are a mix of solar farms, batteries, and solar farms and batteries combined. 

From development and construction to operations, our teams are dedicated to ongoing landowner, community and First Nations engagement throughout the full lifecycle of a project.

Phase 1: Development

The development phase involves all scoping for the project and is a critical stage in bringing a project to life. During this phase, our team lays the groundwork to ensure the project is viable, sustainable and ready for construction.

Identify site
Project identification and site selection – meet with local landowners.
Contact Traditional Owners
Once a site is selected, Traditional Owners are contacted for discussion.
Conduct feasibility tests
The selected site is assessed, and feasibility tests are conducted.
Engage local community
Host the first community information day. Local input is gathered and feedback obtained.
Surveys, testing and studies
Surveys, testing and studies continue, including cultural heritage and grid connection feasibility.
Community day
A second community day may be held.
Prepare submissions
Based on the tests and feedback, a Development Application and Environmental Impact Statement is prepared and submitted to the government.
Public exhibition
Public exhibition takes place.
Submission assessment
Assessment of and response to submissions are provided.
Government approval
Goverment approval is sought for the project.

Phase 2: Construction

Once all planning, approvals, and contracts are in place, a renewable energy project moves into the construction phase. This is where the project takes shape – solar panels, wind turbines, or battery systems are physically installed and connected to the grid.

Construction preparation
All items are prepared for construction. Finalise design plans and order materials.
Hire construction team
Workers are hired to build the project.
Construction begins
An open line of communication with the community is maintained, regular updates provided.
Testing phase
Once installation is complete, rigorous testing is conducted for safety and functionality.
Grid connection
The new project is connected to the grid.
Switch on
The project begins to generate electricity.
Open day
An open day may take place to celebrate with the local community.

Phase 3: Operation

With construction complete, the renewable project enters its operational phase, generating and/or storing clean energy for the grid for a period of around 30 years.

Benefit sharing begins
Benefit sharing Initiatives are launched and are ongoing.
Optimised outputs
Outputs are optimised for the community and wider grid network.
Continued community engagement
Ongoing communication is maintained with the community.
Ongoing operations
Continued operations and maintenance, including environmental monitoring.
Host site visits and open days
Periodic site visits, talks, and open days are conducted.
Community benefits
Community benefits maintained or adjusted to suit the local community.
Land management
Ongoing assessment of the land continues.
Lifecycle complete
Project operates for around 30 years
Renewal or decommission
Project is renewed or decommissioned.
