The beginning of 2024 has been relatively uneventful for much of the National Electricity Market (NEM) – renewable penetration has shown consistent year-on-year growth in almost all regions, and wholesale prices have typically been at similar levels to previous months.
However, a combination of record high demand, thermal outages, and interconnector constraints resulted in Queensland (and by extension New South Wales) having a rocky month.
