A combination of factors led to electricity and gas prices falling in December. Increased generator availability resulted in greater supply, greater renewable generation caused lower middle-of-the-day prices, and government intervention on coal and gas prices helped provide downward pressure on baseload generator bids. Throughout the month, sudden drops in renewable generation and interconnector constraints caused a handful of isolated high prices in New South Wales, South Australia, and Tasmania.
