New England Solar
Project overview
New England Solar is a 720 MW solar and battery project located near Uralla, in the New England region of New South Wales. Stage 1 energised in 2023 and at 400 MW, is one of the largest solar projects in NSW and one of the largest in the National Electricity Market.
About the project
Developed by ACEN Australia, the New England Solar project spans approximately 2,000 hectares in the New England region. The site is connected to an existing 330kV transmission line owned and operated by TransGrid, providing a strategic advantage for energy distribution.
The project is being delivered in close collaboration with host landholders, First Nations peoples, and the Uralla community. New England Solar has strong local community support and has $7m to be invested through ACEN’s Social Investment Program. An additional 1.5% of the project’s value has been committed to First Nations’ participation and employment.
Additionally, the New England Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is being supported by the NSW Government through its Emerging Energy Program.
Partnering with Flow Power
In 2024, Flow Power announced its 40MW offtake agreement, 10% of Stage 1 New England Solar Farm with ACEN. Through this offtake, Flow Power delivers Power Purchase Agreements to leading Australian organisations such as Asahi and BaptistCare, to source their electricity from New England Solar.
These arrangements will enable both Asahi Beverages and BaptistCare to reach their target of sourcing 100% of their purchased electricity from renewables and be recognised as having zero emissions from 2025. Learn more
Connecting councils to renewables
Using their economy of scale to engage Flow Power, the Shoalhaven, Kiama and Shellharbour Councils have joined forces to purchase renewable electricity via an 8-year Power Purchase Agreement from wind and solar farms in regional NSW, including New England Solar Farm.
By securing a PPA with Flow Power, the Councils help manage electricity costs, improve local grid stability, and encourage more renewable development by concentrating their energy use during times of high renewable generation.
