We’re thrilled to announce that Flow Power has been recognised in the Australian Financial Review for our leadership and innovation in transitioning Australia’s businesses and homes to smarter, more renewable energy solutions.
With the conversation shifting from achieving net zero through offsets, to the more ambitious goal of true zero, we’re committed to providing market-leading solutions for customers who share in our ambition to decarbonise.
Time-matched energy marks the next step in the transition
When we first began sharing our journey to true zero at Flow Power, we explained why time-matched energy is important – and how it will work in the future.
In case you missed it, Australia’s energy regulator will soon introduce a Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin (REGO) framework which will include time stamping, incentivising users to access renewable electricity at the same time that it’s generated.
The consumer is key
Flow Power has long supported businesses – and more recently, households – in participating in demand response, which is the first step towards time-matching energy. It’s a process of shifting energy use to optimally align with renewable supply (and lower prices) in the wholesale market.
Speaking to the Australian Financial Review, Flow Power’s Chief Revenue Officer, Jacob Mahoney, highlights the importance of this:
“Time matching is a process we encourage in our clients. It’s the idea that we can assist them to understand the price incentives in the market and give them tools and advice to shift their flexible loads to better match with times of cheap and abundant renewables.
“Not only are they introducing new supply into the system through our renewable projects and contracting, but also working on demand.
“We have a whole suite of tools and smart technologies we can deploy to accelerate the renewable transition on both the supply and demand side.”
Leading the energy industry by example
At Flow Power, our mission goes beyond helping customers to achieve true zero – we’re committed to achieving it ourselves.
We’ve established a dedicated working group to explore what it takes to fully decarbonise our operations. As part of the working group, Flow Power’s Chief Operating Officer, Byron Serjeantson explains:
“We want to see if we can get there. What does it take?
“What are the learnings that we can share with our customers on their journeys? And can we actually get to 100 per cent, knowing that businesses that get to 80 per cent are doing an amazing job already?”
Unlocking the value of flexible energy use
Australia is one of the most volatile energy markets in the world, presenting great challenges – but even greater opportunities.
While our key driver is decarbonisation, we know there are significant price incentives for customers with flexibility in when they consume energy, as opposed to how much they consume.
This is where we can unlock value for businesses and households ready to take the next step towards smarter energy use, while driving the transition toward Australia’s renewable energy future.
