In our latest video, Energy Engineers, Jack and Charlie, break down three easy steps to mastering your energy shape. Whether you’re a business owner, or just curious about how the energy market works, these strategies can help you cut costs and contribute to Australia’s renewable transition.
If you’re new to the world of energy, you might have heard terms like ‘load shape’ or ‘energy shaping’ and wondered what they mean.
At Flow Power, we’re here to make energy simple. So today, we’ll demystify some common energy industry jargon and tell you how this strategy can help you save on your energy bills.
What is energy shaping?
Your ‘energy shape’ is simply the pattern your energy use makes on a graph, whether that’s daily, seasonal, or yearly. Energy shaping is all about shifting your usage to times when energy is cheaper and greener – like moving your demand from expensive peak periods to the middle of the day when solar is abundant and driving down wholesale prices (sometimes even going negative).
But the energy market can be unpredictable, so it’s not just about following averages. The real secret is to react quickly to price spikes, plan ahead using forecasts and automation, and build habits around long-term trends.
Even small changes, like running equipment during the day or adjusting your schedule for seasonal price swings, can add up to big savings on an annualised basis.
