Hot on the heels of an eventful 2023, 2024 saw several exciting Flow Power milestones take place. From award achievements and renewable project launches to the unveiling of game-changing new products set to transform the energy market – it’s been an action-packed year.

Every year, we continue to build towards our vision of the renewable energy future for Australia, but in 2024, we picked up some serious momentum.

So, today we’re taking a look back at some of the key Flow Power moments that defined the last 12 months.

Launch of Flow Home

In November, we officially launched Flow Home – our smart residential electricity plan, designed to empower households to be part of Australia’s renewable energy transition.

Consumers are pivotal to transforming Australia’s energy market, and it’s innovative new products like Flow Home that we believe will help us get there – every kilowatt counts.

This tech-integrated, 100% GreenPower accredited electricity plan links customers to identifiable, local renewable energy sources and incentivises efficient energy use.

Flow Home is currently available for customers in Victoria, with plans to expand to other states in the NEM in early 2025.

Renewable projects

We celebrated 3 new renewable projects coming online this year, including Riverina Oils Energy Project, Cootamundra Solar Farm and Newstead Community Energy Project

Flow Power supported over 400 MWs of new renewable energy and storage capacity through our contracted and build projects this year.

But we’re not stopping there.

In 2025, there are many more projects on the horizon, with close to 1 GW of renewable developments in the pipeline, including more grid-scale batteries to firm our growing capacity.

Flow Power in the media

It’s been a busy year for our founder and CEO, Matthew van der Linden, who was recently named one of The Australian’s Top 100 Green Energy Power Players.

And where better to discuss all things green energy than Renew Economy’s Solar Insiders podcast? Matthew joined Sophie Vorrath to dive into the evolving role of households in Australia’s energy market and how Flow Power is helping consumers make the most of their energy investments.

Lastly for 2024, we set the ambitious goal to get Flow Power’s Melbourne office to true zero, inspiring a feature in the Australian Financial Review. The article recognises Flow Power’s leadership and innovation in transitioning Australia’s businesses and homes to smarter, more renewable energy solutions.

Awards & achievements

We’re thrilled to be the recipient of some amazing awards this year, a credit to the hard work and experience of our specialist team.

Flow Power’s demand response team won the Energy Efficiency Council‘s Leading Energy Management Innovation Award for 2024. The award was achieved for the Building Intelligent Demand Response in South Australia (SABIDR) project, aimed to address the fragility of South Australia’s grid system and protect it from outages, while rewarding customers for managing their own demand.

As part of the SABIDR project, the team also received the Electrification in Action award at SIM-PAC 2024. This award acknowledged the outstanding work in energy efficiency and electrification for South Australian wool business, Michell Wool.

Finally, Flow Power was recognised as a leader in the B2B: Challenger Category, as one of the Australian Financial Review’s 2024 Customer Champions, leading the way by delivering outstanding customer value and experiences.

Our impact in 2024

Throughout 2024, our team volunteered for non-profit organisations including FareShare, Koala Kids and RSPCA, helping support the communities we operate in.

In September, we also announced the Pathway to Electrotechnology program – an initiative established and supported by Flow Power and Westpac, through the Berri Energy Project Community Fund. This is an important partnership with Tauondi Aboriginal College; facilitating a pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to participate within the evolving renewable energy landscape across South Australia.

Choosing Flow Power as your energy retailer helps us continue to make a genuine impact. As one of the fastest growing retailers in Australia, we’re committed to helping our customers learn how they can meaningfully participate in the renewable transition.

With more energy users controlling flexible loads with Flow Power, our demand response capacity is now equivalent to a medium-sized gas peaking plant! This means simply powering down, or shifting these customer loads from peak demand periods, could actively reduce the need for gas generation in the grid.

Flow Power Highway announcement

Last week, we unveiled an exciting new partnership with GRIDSERVE GLOBAL, to deliver an Australia-wide public network of ultra-fast EV chargers, known as the Flow Power Highway

Commencing in 2025, the project will draw on the learnings, expertise and technology GRIDSERVE GLOBAL has developed through many years building the UK’s largest and most successful EV charging network, with Flow Power’s local industry-leading renewable energy platform capabilities.

This is a huge step towards decarbonising Australia’s transport sector and breaking down barriers to EV adoption for homes and businesses.
